The Progress of the Women Now

The failures and mistakes of the past are changing conceptions of development cooperation. One of the major developments, both in international organizations and in a large number of NGOs, is the consideration of the role of women in development and in particular, the “gender approach” that will be presented today.

Taken by the urgency and the daily life, and probably limited in their means, many French-speaking NGOs do not always take the time to discuss in depth their practices and the results obtained, in particular with regard to the women.

Each year is a milestone in our approach to NGOs, raising awareness and collaboration to better take into account gender relations in development actions. With the winning 4 young woman the progress is on.

  • This study and training day was conceived for the NGOs of the North and concerns all the activities of an NGO. It is intended for development education managers, trainers and facilitators, public opinion officers and development project managers. The objectives proposed to the participants are:
  • Refine reflection on the advancement of women in a framework of equity and justice. To train in analyzing the place and roles of women in development.

Consider gender mainstreaming in practice

We present an overview of the role of women in development by adopting the NGO’s point of view and frame of reference. This day is mainly intended to initiate or develop a reflection within the NGOs, a reflection that allows them to engage in the consideration of gender relations. The analysis will therefore not focus specifically on projects, which are one of the components of the implementation of NGO policy and will be the subject of specific training.

This overview is organized around 3 points:

  1. The concept of gender,
  2. The theory of 3 roles and some elements of analysis,
  3. Change strategies especially for Northern NGOs.

This content is addressed through theoretical contributions, concrete examples and the exchange of experience of the participants.

This document, more than a syllabus, is a starting point for a deepening of studies and exchanges, for both participants and organizers: it takes the concepts and information that we have prepared, but also a summary of information issues, questions and suggestions of great richness that emerged in the discussions; we hope that the collaboration of this day will develop.

Ideological reminder

It is important to remember that we are situated in the ideological and ethical context of the most widespread development cooperation among democratic NGOs, that where economic development and social, human and political development go hand in hand.

NGO interventions are based on “a philosophy of development that aims to promote the empowerment of the poor by helping them to increase their capacity, access to resources and the gut power necessary to achieve and maintain a satisfactory standard of living.

Fine Detailing from the Scrap Metal Deals

A rusting bathtub, a bicycle with a broken frame or a bent crane in a refurbishment may seem worthless rubbish, but the scrap dealer is worth the money.

Do not expect to recoup your entire renovation by going to metal recycling, but you will soon put a few bucks in your pocket. The Purmerend people often come along with fronts, window frames, iron beams, water pipes and electricity cables.

You have to take the car to throw it away. If you hand in the metal at the municipality you will not get anything for it, you will get paid for it. Plus: you are doing well. If you make sure that your waste metal is recycled, you not only have financial profit, but also environmental benefits. From the famous for used scrap metals this is important.

Copper most valuable

In principle, most metals used in households can be sold to scrap dealers. The main prize is paid for copper. But also for a trampled bike, for example, money is paid at a metal trade. The company estimates that a 20-kilo bicycle currently produces an amount between three and four euros.

How much you get paid out can vary daily. Metal traders set the prices they pay based on the Metal Exchange, a leading global metal market. In addition, the price depends of course on the profit margin that the trader charges.

The enclosed framework ‘Scrapping prices’ shows that there are considerable price differences. Copper currently delivers about 5 euros per kilo, brass is around 3 euros and for old iron it is about 20 cents per kilo.

Devices with metal

Some companies act not only in demolition materials, but also in devices that contain metal. A metal trader indicates that they also buy old computers, because metal is often used in the motherboard and the hard drive.

Sometimes strict environmental requirements are associated with the recycling of appliances. Returning air conditioning and refrigerators, for example, is often not possible because dangerous substances are often processed in these appliances. You will also have the support of affordable metal drum supplier in singapore.

Those who occasionally trade a batch of metal do not, have to pay any tax on this income. “But if you go to the metal dealer so often that you start to look like an entrepreneur, you have to start paying taxes.

Minimum weight

Not every scrap dealer purchases metals from private individuals. Some work with a minimum weight for less expensive metals like iron. Therefore it is advisable to first call the metal dealer in the neighborhood before you pick up the car.

Metals must also be handed in ‘clean’, ie without glass, plastic or other non-metals. If two metals are incorporated in the object often works with an average price.

Because criminals have also discovered that money can be made from metal trade, traders can ask for proof of identity when they are sold. The Metal Recycling Federation (MRF) ensures that members who wear the MRF quality mark do not act in illegally acquired metal. The Federation is also lobbying to oblige showing a proof of identity.
